Manchester-based chartered accountants Beever and Struthers has strengthened its position as a leading provider of expert advice to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with the appointment of Shelim Rahman as partner.
The growing SME team comprises of seven partners and support staff focused on the North West’s small and medium business sector.
Beever and Struthers is enhancing its expert offering at a time when SMEs facing tough trading conditions and needing access to finance, face increasingly difficult cashflow issues due to banks tightening their lending practices and customers taking longer to pay.
Shelim, aged 36, joined Beever and Struthers from HNL, the Altrincham-based accountancy firm that merged with Beever and Struthers in 2006.
Shelim trained in the audit department of BDO Stoy Hayward in Manchester. Since qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 2002 he has worked at Ernst and Young in Manchester and Cowgill Holloway in Bolton before joining HNL in late 2004.
He graduated from Leeds University with a degree in economics and economic and social history and ran the family business in Sale prior to embarking upon his accountancy career.
Shelim said: “These are undeniably tough times for SMEs. They are the engine of the UK economy and it’s therefore essential that they receive the best possible expert advice to enable them to survive and potentially thrive during the current downturn.”
“The experience I gained in running a business is invaluable when advising my clients as it has given me practical hands-on knowledge about making a profit and handling succession issues.”
Shelim is married with two daughters, aged 13 and 4, and lives in Sale.
