The Made Smarter programme is designed to support manufacturers, engineers and makers with facilities or operations in the North West to grow through adoption of new technologies.
In 2018 SKV was tasked with launching a major government-backed business support programme, Made Smarter. The £20m initiative was aimed at North West SME manufacturers who were interested in adopting more ‘Industry 4.0’ techniques and processes.
SKV devised a localised strategy which targeted every major sub-region in the North West. This involved securing buy-in from local SME case studies and spokespeople from across Greater Manchester, Liverpool City Region, Cumbria, Lancashire and Cheshire & Warrington to support the Made Smarter message. SKV also needed to liaise effectively with North West Local Enterprise Partnerships, local Growth Hub, and national Made Smarter partners including Siemens and the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.
Prior to launch, localised press releases were sold-in under embargo to all key media across every North West sub-region. On the day of launch, every media who had been pitched received an image featuring a case study and spokesperson from their specific region. This bespoke, targeted and strategic approach saw 30 sperate pieces of coverage for Made Smarter appear in all target North West areas and conurbations. In addition, SKV secured 11 pieces of national coverage in specialist B2B manufacturing, engineering, processes and materials media.
Launch day was topped-off by a very positive report on ITV ‘s Granada Reports. The incredible success of the Made Smarter launch has seen SKV now retained to oversee the roll out of the programme in 2019.
