Andy as one of the few thousand readers back in the day I always enjoyed the City Life worldview. There's definitely a fascinating week by week 'diary' of mid 80's Manchester book in here waiting to be written. A John Robb project perhaps?

The MEN still had the back copies of City Life when I left in 2003, although they may have disposed of them since, particularly under the new regime.

I know they're closed at the moment but the Manchester archives and local studies at Central Library would surely be interested?

Or maybe even Museum of Science and Industry - when Rob Gretton passed away, his family gave a whole bunch of Hacienda stuff to MOSI. It's in storage, but I went and had a look through it a couple of years ago and it was fascinating - they've got everything from accounts to guest lists ("Noel from Inspirals +3") to minutes from management meetings.

Andy, fine read, well put fella ... spot on

have I read this right, surely you're not giving those magazines away?

Historically City Life mag is as much an icon of our city as The Hacienda, as cutting edge as Brown's cheekbones, as charming as Ryder's centre-parting, and as off the wall as Sidebottom's papier-mache

Seriously - not to be under-sold, this is a collection of worth and it's about time something happened to commemorate City Life magazine ... do they still do that Blue Plaque stuff?

hope these find a home, and some level of respectable landmarking takes place sooner rather than later
