Lancashire’s Skills and Employment Hub is investing over £30m in new, modern training centres in Lancashire – normally working with local partners – with the aim of improving skills in key sectors which are crucial to economic growth.

This is a key strand of the Lancashire Enterprise Partnership’s strategic programme to drive growth in the county. SKV was asked to raise awareness of the skills strategy and its delivery by achieving media coverage.

Working with colleagues at the Hub, we developed key strategic messages and put together a planned schedule of communications activity to deliver them, focusing on milestones in the programme’s delivery and other news hooks such as, for example, the completion of new facilities for local colleges and the launch of an initiative to promote apprenticeships. In terms of media relations, this included press releases, photo opportunities and launch events targeted at local, regional and business press and broadcast media. Social media and digital communications were also fully utilised. We worked closely with local partner organisations throughout the campaign.

Over the last two years, results have been excellent, including regular coverage in local press including the Lancashire Evening Post and Lancashire Telegraph and also exposure in media outlets such as, BBC Radio Lancashire and
